Tesla Model S Remains Number 1 Large Luxury Vehicle In USA

Model S Leading Spot

Model 3 dramatically pushed Model X and Model S out of the spotlight in recent times. For a couple of years, Model X and Model S were the hot items in the automobile industry. Model S experienced a dramatic, sharp and unexpected rise which made it lead other cars in the large luxury cars category.

It earned a spot in the spotlight owing to its performance on metrics such as reviews, sales and consumer satisfaction. Model 3 however came and somehow took that spotlight position.

However, Model S is still doing pretty well. A comparison between the Model S and other cars in the category shows that Model S has recorded fairly steady sales and remains steadily ahead of competition in the large luxury car category.

The large gap in the sales which it recorded in the past quarter had to do with the declining sales of other car models in the large luxury category. The dropping sales is partly as a result of people opting for CUVs and SUVs and some of those people have definitely shifted to Model S.

Model X on the other hand has been having issues coming out top on the chart in the midsize luxury category which is a bit more popular than the large luxury category. GoodCarBadCar places Model X in this category and it takes a spot outside the top 10 cars in the category.

Placing the Model X in the large luxury class based on price and its falcon-wing doors will give it a better performance as it gets a top spot second only to Cadillac Escalade. This means people can chose to place the Model X in either of the categories. At the moment, a lot of car enthusiasts are wondering how Model Y will perform in the small and Medium SUV categories.

Exterior Changes

Elon Musk earlier revealed that Tesla is taking Obsidian black and silver metallic off the list of exterior color options. The move is in a bid to streamline the manufacturing process. The colors will only be available for people who specially request for it and it would cost them an additional $1,500. It will maintain production of other colors including its signature red color which actually slows down production.

The reduction of the color options is part of the company’s measures to increase its sales figures. Other measures to boost sales include immediate deliveries of its Model 3. In addition, construction of its manufacturing section is also another sales boosting measure.

The major goal underlying all the measures is Tesla’s determination to meet up with its increasing sales target while also stemming its losses.

Interior Options

Asides the color options, Tesla is also embarking on the implementation of several interior changes. Musk recently announced that the company is taking off several Model X and Model S interior decoration options next month so production can be simplified. Musk, however, refused to indicate the particular features that will be excluded from the cars.

Currently, there are 4 different interior decoration options that exceed the basic black textile. All the variations use leather as well as wood trimmings in different forms. There are also diverse seating options such as Model S with its rear-facing seats and Model X with different seats configuration.

Experts have already opined that Tesla would likely remove the sections that are less popular, particularly if those selections cause considerable delays during the production phase. The reduction move is still a part of Tesla determination to increase its production while also reducing its expenses.

Model X and Model S

The Model S is a midsize luxury car. It is an all electric car that was introduced by Tesla in 2012. The Model S 100D has a 100 kWh battery pack and its EPA range is 335 miles which makes it higher than other electric cars.

Tesla Model X is a CUV produced by Tesla. The CUV with falcon wing doors was also unveiled by Tesla in 2012. It has an official EPA range between 237 and 295 miles.
