Two Sides to a Coin
But just like there are always two sides to a coin, some people have been raising concerns with the Prince’s attendance, particularly since he took a private helicopter to the Sicilian region.
Apparently, flying private would add at least three carbon tonnes into the atmosphere, beating the logic of attending a climate change event. If he’d have traveled commercially, reports say, the trip would have emitted 10 times less carbon.
Interestingly, this isn’t the Prince’s first time to come under fire for actions some people deem contradictory to his efforts against climate change.
Earlier this year, Prince Harry chartered a private jet a few days before delivering a climate change speech, parting with $8,000 and emitting tonnes of carbon while at it.
The speech, delivered in London on WE Day, laid emphasis on climate being more of a humanitarian rather than a political issue.
The Prince continued to say that as a global people, we are yet to fully rise to the occasion and combat the effects climate change is having on our day to day lives.
However, the silver lining, he continued, is the fact that at the moment we have the appropriate technology required to save both the planet and ourselves.
