“Mummy 4” Official Release Set for 2028, Classic Cast Returns

The adventure-horror franchise that defined late ’90s cinema is heading back to theaters. “Mummy 4” is officially scheduled for release on May 19, 2028, bringing Oscar winners Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz back to the big screen.

The film marks a major continuation of a series that blends ancient curses, action set pieces, and character-driven storytelling.

Direction and Creative Team

Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known professionally as Radio Silence Productions, will lead the project for Universal Pictures.

Screenwriter David Coggeshall crafted the script, bringing long-standing passion for the franchise to the production.

Coggeshall wrote on X, “If you asked newbie writer me in 1999 what my dream job would be, I would’ve said “The Mummy.” It took a quarter century, but that dream came true.”

Producer James Vanderbilt also shared his excitement: “So excited to be a part of this! @DavidCoggeshall wrote an amazing script and @HiRadioSilence are going to direct the hell out of it. (Oh and our two Oscar winning leads are back too!)”

Returning Cast and Franchise Legacy

Fraser and Weisz portrayed Rick and Evie O’Connell in “The Mummy” and “The Mummy Returns.” However, Maria Bello stepped into the role of Evie in “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.”

With its original leads returning and a new directing team in place, “Mummy 4” signals a focused revival of the franchise’s core appeal. As a result, the 2028 release date positions the film as a significant chapter in the series’ ongoing legacy.
