Sweet as a Candyman but tough as a Fighter: that’s how Christina Aguilera’s songs go and perhaps even how she portrayed herself as an artist.
With her mind-blowing performance, chart-topping hits, and soulful but powerful voice, the songstress, who also goes by Xtina, became a multi-faceted performer, who we have seen transform from her The Mickey Mouse Club days to a teen pop sensation, to now a well-respected icon that every aspiring singer looks up to.
This year, she is celebrating her 20th anniversary as a recording artist and to mark the milestone, she tweeted a video of her dance routine from her first single, “Genie in the Bottle,” of her debut self-titled album.
Tumultuous Childhood
Being in the recording industry for two decades and in the show business since her early teens have made what the “Reflection” singer is right now, but when asked what advice she would give her teen self, the 38-year-old singer said that she just needs to trust herself and accept everything for these would get her to where she wanted to be — and look at her now.
Though the “What a Girl Wants” singer grew up in our very eyes, there are still sad stories behind her powerful voice and tough stage attitude.
Aguilera had a tumultuous childhood — her parents got a divorce when the singer was just 6 years old, and for the young Christina, music became her escape from a troubled family life.
But the problems were not exclusively at home for when she studied high school, the “Come On Over Baby” diva had to be homeschooled due to bullying.
No Regrets
Still, looking back, Christina has no regrets in her life and career path. She said that she wants her teenage self to accept what she was going through and use them as creative motivation and growth.
The “The Voice” judge also added that she wanted her younger self to not be ashamed of her feelings for it will mold her to become better.
It seems as though the old singer did talk to her younger self through her stellar career and bright discography. One of her songs, “Beautiful” even became an anthem for the LGBT community and was regarded as one of the best songs in the 2000s.
Dramatic and Fun Playground
Currently, the “Burlesque” star has found a new performing home in Planet Hollywood where she is hosting “The Xperience” shows.
The singer, who is a big fan of Cirque de Soleil, promised that her shows will not be just a series of concerts but a dramatic and fun playground where her audience can be themselves and shed their masks off.
The mother of two also alluded that the show is a form of freedom for her fans, a safe place where they can be who they want to be.
Xtina also said that though she also sometimes wished that she could have savored her teenage stardom more, she is thankful for where she is right now. It’s truly a wonder how words didn’t bring her down.
