47-year-old actress gets honest about her difficulties in finding the perfect work-life balace.
Finding the work-life balance must be one of the greatest struggles of most individuals. The American actress, singer-songwriter, businesswoman, and mother Jada Pinkett Smith is undeniably one of them. The 47-year-old star opened-up about how difficult her journey on finding the perfect formula of balance between work and motherhood is.
The Girls Trip actress admitted that she struggled to figure out the balance between her career and home when she first became a mother to her son, Jaden Smith. She stopped working to become a full-time mom, but without her career, she realized she was miserable.
Pinkett Smith’s Career
Pinkett Smith began her acting career way back in 1990 as a guest on the sitcom, True Colors. She then starred in several television series and films including A Different World, Menace II Society, Set It Off, Scream, The Matrix, Bad Moms and many more.
In 2002, she launched her music career as a singer-songwriter in the metal band Wicked Wisdom. She also has a production company alongside with her husband Will Smith. Being a career-driven woman, she also wrote a children’s book entitled Girls Hold up This World which was published in 2004.
Do What You Love
It took her time to finally realize that the best thing she could do for herself and her family is doing the things she loves the most.
Now, Pinkett Smith works with her mother Adrienne Banfield and also her daughter Willow Smith on a Facebook Watch series called Red Table Talk.
She said it is also a bit of a challenge to discuss serious topics at the table with her family. She had to have conversations with her mother and her daughter, where she sometimes spills out too much information. Although, she absolutely enjoys the deep talks she shares with them and feels ultimately good about the whole epxerience.
The Red Table Talk discusses a wide range of topics, including addiction, divorce, and domestic abuse.
Above all, the actress wished she had listened to her husband’s advice sooner. Will Smith used to always tell her to put her oxygen mask on first before doing anything else for the others.

However, the actress also said this might not be the case for all women. She explained that a friend of hers stayed at home and she loved it.
Pinkett Smith said it is very important that every individual recognizes that we have the right to figure out what works best for us. She left a piece of advice saying that we don’t have to do what everyone else is doing. Just do what is best for us and our family.
